PBIS Important Information- PLEASE READ_if you have questions-ask right AWAY
On Monday please hand out the BLUE Tickets to students who attend your class.  The students will staple ALL FIVE tickets together (if they went to ALL there classes) and turn them into the PBIS mailbox for a Special PBIS Drawing on Tuesday November 1st.  Halloween and the day after are high truancy days throughout the district and we are trying to increase attendance these two days for our site.  Please remind students that they will need to be present on Tuesday to win.

In The Tool Box
As we focus on getting our students to engage in high quality academic conversations, we need to have effective structures in place in our classrooms that will foster these conversations--small groups is such a structure, Below is an article that explains a couple of ways to think about structuring small learning groups in the classrooms (the first person to explain the best setting to utilize heterogeneous vs homogeneous groups in the classroom will receive a prize). GREAT THINGS
*Walk With Superintendent- During our walk of both both campuses SY@AHS and SY@FHS Kris Corey noticed:  Teachers engaging students in Academic Conversations, students utilizing chromebooks, and students engaged in writing.  As Kris left campus she stated that she walks A LOT of classrooms District wide and was impressed with what she saw at Sem Yeto!! Keep up the AWESOME work.....

*Paula working with students getting them motivated to EARN that diploma.  Paula has organized the Sacramento field trip where students  will not only tour Sac City and Sac State but will  listen to a motivational speaker....

*Sarah and Margene for creating the cozy cap club where students are making beanies for babies int he nursery:) and making caps for our display cart in the mall:)

* Astrid and Brandon for their team effort in the canned food drive collaboration with Solano Mall.  They will be working with our students to decorate the cart and handing out candy at the mall on Halloween.  Brandon will be leading the canned food drive.  Please contribute any  SY "Swag" you have or can make to help decorate the cart. The cart will be decorated October 29th.

* Keith had his ART II students in quarter one draw an Incredibly detailed "Chief" picture for the front office.  If you not have had a chance to see it ..please come take a look:) IT IS AWESOME:) 

* Tina and her POSITIVE attitude and ALWAYS willing to help out with a smile:) 


CONCUSSION FORMS ARE A MUST
The District informed ALL schools last week that students must have a concussion form FILLED out and turned in PRIOR to participating in ANY organized activity that is physical.  This would include ANY clubs that are physical AND any staff/student planned sport games.

review policies and procedures

please take the time to review policies and procedures with all your classes. make sure the students are aware of your expectations, class procedures, how they will be graded, what they will do immediately upon entry into the class, consequences for not following rules, being tardy ect…. please emphasize school policies such as: YOU MUST HAVE A PASS to leave class,  students must not leave class the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of class and students may not be released from class until the bell RINGS.  

We have many students pop into the office in the middle of class to say HI or to "hangout" without a pass.   Please do not allow students to LEAVE class without the pass provided to you at the start of the year.  If you lost yours, please let me know:) 

High Starting Point
As you plan/prepare for your second quarter classes, continue to set high expectations for all students. Having high expectations (especially for our unmotivated and extremely credit deficient students) is essential to any steps forward students will encounter academically. People only know what we value by our actions; and this rings true in our classrooms everyday. Our actions communicate to our students what we think about them and their abilities to achieve success academically. Below  is a brief article on what actions we can implement in our classrooms to assist us in letting our students know and understand that our classrooms are places where they will achieve success. We Are on the Right Track!

Urban Prep Academy in Chicago is a charter school for young men. Since its inception in 2010, this school has had a 100% graduation rate and acceptance rate to colleges for all of their students. This is amazing seeing where all of these students start academically upon entering this school. One of the more fascinating stories attached to the school is the advisory period all of these students must be enrolled in, and stay in throughout there stay in the academy. I think there are some similar traits to what we are on the road to developing at our schools--very exciting, and encouraging (The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches (knowledge) but reveal to him/her their own.- Benjamin Disraeli. The first person to read the article, watch the short video, is able to tell us the reason Pride was chosen as the name, and share this quote will receive a prize). Enjoy and have a great week!

We May Be On To Something

PBIS
Last week on Tuesday individuals from the SCOE (Solano County Office of Education) visited each site and completed the SET (Schoolwide Evaluation Tool) interviews of students and staff.  Both sites did a great job!!!  Sem Yeto @ Armijo scored an 82% accuracy and Sem Yeto @ Fairfield scored an 88% accuracy.  The scores at each site indicate that we are implementing Tier I supports with fidelity:)

On Friday we recognized 6 students at each site as monthly winners.  Since the beginning of the school year we have passed out over 2,000 PBIS tickets combined at both sites. Keep up the good work we have noticed some good things happening in regards to recognizing positive student behaviors.
