Academic Discourse
I attended a training on Friday regarding Academic Discourse.
It provided valuable information on how to easily implement Academic Discourse into instruction and how to "scaffold" the instructional strategy in order to get all students to participate. A few years ago, at SYS I held quick meets where I introduced one T4S attribute a week to the staff versus reviewing them all at one time.  I would like to use the same format in presenting the information I learned on Friday.  I spoke to a few teachers who attended the training on Saturday and they stated they loved the fact that the training provided them something they could easily bring back to the classroom and it gave them a variety of "tools" to get students to talk.   The  presenter had us practice the Academic Discourse strategies with one another throughout the training.  At one point in the training when he was "reading through his power point" he stopped and asked us, "How many of you are more ENGAGED NOW then when you were TALKING to another in the activity you just participated in?"  NO ONE raised their  hand.  My goal is to start the quick meets next week:) They will only be about 20 minutes long:) I will hold them at both sites so no one has to RUSH to the other site:)
